On arrival the ladies were very patient, and the wine they offered me was just GREAT. The fact that my luggage was already in my room when I came back from supper was also just amazing. The brisket & Harvard butternut were BEAUTIFUL!!

We used Speir Hotel for our final two nights in South Africa after travelling to various places along the garden route. The layout of the hotel was ideal for just relaxing with a choice of the main pool area or by one of the smaller pools located to the rear of individual rooms. The Hotel is ideally located for visiting many local wineries. On our last day the hotel granted our request to keep our room on for 5.5 hours at no extra charge prior to the short journey to the Airport. Will definitely return on our next journey to SA.
The Hotel lunch menu was quite restricted however there are various other outlets located within this large complex.

Excellent bar and restaurant staff.
We booked a luxury room with a king and single bed, but received a king-sized bed only. I asked the reception to change it before dinner, but nothing was done. After returning from dinner, it still wasn't changed, and I had to sleep on the sofa. This lack of attention to detail shows a disappointing level of service. I've stayed here before and expected better accommodation arrangements.

The Hotel staff was friendly, our waiter, Sylvester gave us excellent service at dinner. Our stay was even made much more special with the gasfires in both the lounch and bedroom. It was a chilly night, so I spent a good 10 minutes infront of the fire in our bedroom with a cup of hot chocolate before I went to bed. We will definitely use the Hotel again in summer.
The only thing that put me a bit off was that our rooms was quite a walk from the main hotel.

ideal base for exploring local wineries and parks
The friendly staff, and we loved exploring the nearby Eagle Encounters just a short 10-minute walk away followed by an afternoon at the beautiful wine estate that was just under 5 km drive from our hotel. Perfect for my weekend city strolls filled with unique landmarks and park views. As a couple, we appreciated the lovely garden terrace in our room for a peaceful escape after our adventures.

Fantastic room and private bathroom with all necessary facilities. Stunning location overlooking garden and close to wonderful gardens and walks to be done, the festival of lights directed by Jay Pather, and the center of the area. The pool area is good too. What a very good and courteous staff.

Great to have horse riding on site. Our daughter loved being driven around by Stanford in his golf buggy.
The quality of food was very disappointing, particularly in a region known for great food.

Our booking was lost between Booked.net and the hotel. We where made to wait over an hour for our rooms and staff would not tell us what was causing the delay which lead to frustration after a long trip. Guest manager did apologize the next day for the inconvenience but despite this I would personally not stay at again or recommend this hotel. Also believe rooms did not meet 4 star quality. Having stayed at various 4 & 5 star hotels around SA on this trip, the rooms and facilities at Spier were below standard of the others of similar grading.

The only good thing was that it is on the same property as the conference centre where I was attending a conference!
Room key did not work every single night, the dustbin was not emptied until I put in the middle of the room, the cobwebs are actually hanging down from the ceiling and I don't think that the ceiling fan has ever been cleaned, the food is really good but certainly way over priced!

I loved the serene atmosphere and beautifully decorated common areas. The bar served fresh juices, and the breakfast buffet had a great variety of fruits. The staff provided really good service. Access to a semi-private pool was a fantastic bonus. It was a wonderful experience 🌞

The Spier is absolutely beautiful and very well maintained. We were very surprised as to how big Spier was, there was so much to see and do. The gardens and marked walking routes were beautiful. The Birds of Prey and Cheetah outreach on the estate made the stay even more memorable. The dinner at the restaurant was absolutely fantastic, most especially the rolled lamb with feta and pepperdews. We enjoyed a latte in the very spacious lounging area every evening.
The restuarant was our only complaint, the food was great but the serving staff were not on top of their game. At two of the three breakfasts the tables were not set properly and it was easier to move to another table than to wait for them to be set properly. Ordering a coffee required patience.

All of the different experiences on offer - birds especially
Minor points - hair dryer plug would not stay in socket; patio rather dirty; sunloungers in private garden left out overnight so wet in the morning; no coffee jug for ground coffee; no drinking water in the room.
